Adult Learn to Row
MRC welcomes adults who would like to get a sense of the beauty and camaraderie that can be found rowing in the heart of the Twin Cities. This class offers 6 hours of instruction on land and on the water including basics of the rowing stroke and how to handle the rowing equipment. Upon completion of Learn To Row, participants may become MRC members and continue rowing with our Adult Novice Team.
MRC strives to offer programs that meet or exceed public health and social distancing guidelines. We strongly recommend participants be fully vaccinated, however at this time, it is not required. Please note MRC reserves the right to update club COVID policies and procedures at any time in response to changing conditions. Please view the MRC Safety page for MRC COVID-19 Procedures.
Get Program Updates by Email: Due to the popularity of this program, we are considering a lottery registration model for 2024. If you are interested in joining the email list to be notified of program updates and registration information, please CLICK HERE to submit your email address.
Class Outline
Friday: This class will be entirely on land with an orientation and tour of our award-winning boathouse, stroke work on the erg, and an introduction to equipment and equipment handling. Be prepared for light to moderate exercise.
Saturday and Sunday: Get ready to row! You'll warm up and review stroke basics before getting out on the water. The class will utilize our safe and stable 10-person training barge and if conditions permit, you may have the opportunity to row an 8+ (8 oar rowing shell plus coxswain) with MRC volunteers. Please dress according to weather for light to moderate exercise, e.g. layers, hat, sunscreen, etc.
Please be prepared to attend all three classes in your session which will be held rain or shine. NO make-ups.
2023 Cost: $220 (2024 rates TBD)
2024 Learn To Row Schedule - Registration Info TBA
Historically, registration for the Minneapolis Rowing Club Adult Learn to Row Program has been first come, first served. However, we recognize with the increased popularity of this program, this has created an unnecessarily stressful process for both MRC staff and interested participants.
For 2024, we are exploring a lottery model for the registration process. Please join the LTR email list for program updates, or check back for more information in early March 2024.
