Adult Learn to Row
MRC is dedicated to redesigning our Learn To Row and Experiential Rowing Programs for 2021 to ensure we meet or exceed public health and social distancing guidelines. Please check back late winter/ early spring for more program updates.
Try Rowing: Sculling 101
Welcome to the new Minneapolis Rowing Club program, Try Rowing: Sculling 101. In this 3-hour class, MRC seeks to provide a brief introduction specifically to sculling (rowing with 2 oars) in singles or, if two members of the same household sign up together, they may row a double.
The class will include a section on land where we introduce ourselves, the boathouse, and the basic rowing stroke on the erg (ergometer=rowing machine). While we will quickly progress you to getting out on the water in a single or double, you will have a coach in a launch as well as an experienced rower out on the water with you.
As the health and safety of all club guests, members, and coaches is of the utmost concern, participants will be required to wear a face mask or other covering over the nose and mouth at all times while on land, including on the erg. Prior to registration, please review the MRC COVID-19 Procedures.
This program is open to adults and high school aged youth. The minimum is age 14 and entering high school, and participants aged 14-17 (or entering grades 9-12) must register with and row a double a parent/guardian. The cost is $75 per participant and includes a t-shirt and $25 coupon good towards any MRC rowing program in 2021.
Please also note, the ability to hold this session safely is heavily dependent on favorable rowing conditions including light to no wind. If there is any concern conditions will be unsafe, participants will be notified by 8:00pm the night before. In the event of a cancellation, a make-up session will automatically be offered the following Sunday. Refunds will be offered if we are unable to hold this class on either Saturday or Sunday. Please sign up with the intention that you are potentially available on Sunday if we cannot row on Saturday.
LTR Program Suspended for 2020
Unfortunately due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, MRC is unable to offer our Learn to Row program in it's traditional 5 session format in our training barge and 8 person boats.

MRC's Learn to Row program is a group learning environment which we do not believe we can safely offer at this time under current social distancing guidelines. However, we remain extremely hopeful and committed to offering some type of Learn To Row programming later this summer. Please check back for additional updates.
MRC welcomes adults who would like to get a sense of the beauty and camaraderie that can be found rowing in the heart of the Twin Cities. This class provides a more in-depth introduction to sweep rowing than our Rowing Adventure classes. No previous rowing experience is necessary. Our coaches teach the basics of the rowing stroke and how to handle the rowing equipment at our award-winning boathouse.
Historically, we offer morning, evening or weekend sessions that meet for a total of five classes. Given the progressive nature of this course,
attendance to all five classes in the session is important. Cost is $200 for a session consisting of 5 classes.
Cost: $200
